Fresh Shot – Strawberry with a fluffy cream hat

This is the first of our Fresh Shot range of recipes. We like to have these as shooters.

But sometimes we don’t want to buy a whole bottle of liqueur for one cocktail. With a few common ingredients you can whip this up and use it in your strawberry daiquiri, Strawberry Sour or over ice cream.

Because this contains fresh strawberry it cannot keep like liqueur. However, it can be kept for a week in the freezer. I’m not sure if it lasts longer as I’ve never had it that long. Hehehehe!

Recipients: Newly arrived guests. Welcoming them with a shot sets the pace for the rest of the visit.

Type: Shot

EQUIPMENT

Bowl

Fork

Strainer

Shot glass

INGREDIENTS

200g strawberries. If you take out three to five for garnish, depending on size, 200g should be the rest of a 250g punnet.

3 tablespoons caster sugar

2 tablespoons lemon juice

200ml vodka

METHOD

Dice strawberries and put into a bowl.

Add caster sugar, lemon juice and vodka.

Let the strawberry mixture sit for approximately an hour. Time can vary. If you are in a hurry let it stand for 15 minutes. Or if you are busy let it stand for two hours. This step is to let the strawberries soften.

Mash the strawberries in the mixture.

Strain the mixture pushing out as much liquid as you can.

SERVE

Pour into a garnished port glass or shot glass.

Garnish with cream, if you like.

ANECDOTE

It came about due to my dislike of common strawberry liqueur. It tastes like lipgloss.
