Lazy Margarita
This isn’t a new recipe. It is a lazy method to get a margarita in your hand faster, using less implements. You can cull another step by using bottled juice instead of lemons but the aroma from bruised peel complements the citrus flavour of Cointreau or triple sec.
Recipients: Fresh, fun, party people
Type: Made in glass
EQUIPMENT
Margarita glass, martini cocktail glass, wine glass or tumbler.
Stirring implement like a swizzle stick, tall spoon or chopstick
INGREDIENTS
30ml tequila
30ml Cointreau or triple sec
3 lemon wedges. We cut a small lemon into six wedges.
Salt
Ice
METHOD
Wet the rim of your glass with a piece of lemon. Pour a thin layer of salt onto a saucer. Put the glass upside down on the saucer to crust the rim of the glass with salt. Wriggle the glass around to apply more or less salt as desired.
Pour tequila into your glass taking care to avoid knocking salt from the rim. Though, we are aiming for efficiency here, not perfection so don’t worry if the glass is a little untidy.
Pour your choice of Cointreau or triple sec into your glass. Cointreau tastes more citrus while triple sec is sweeter.
Squeeze juice from the lemon wedges into the glass and drop the squeezed wedge in the glass.
Fill glass with ice. Stir vigorously to melt the ice a little.
ADJUST
Add more lemon juice if you want more pep.
SERVE
Serve it in the glass you made it in.
OPTIONAL
You can serve with a swizzle stick or chopstick if you like.
My sister, Adele enjoyed a margarita with chilli salt and loved it. Add some chilli flakes to your rim to put some heat into the cool.
ANECDOTE
I’ve attended a party with a tequila/triple sec mix and a bag of lemons. A friend and I sipped a refreshing cocktail all night from only a little bit of preparation at the party.
